The second choice for the Summer Heat is for those who lives a melancholic summer on the border of a swimming pool.
A lot has been said about this video and the funny charachter that Lana del Rey is, since I’m not that much into Lana Del Rey singing, and gossip, I will try to keep my review the most objective and technical possible.
 
The music video for “Video Games” was directed and edited by Del Rey herself, painting a clear cross-section of the hipster movement (similar to Florence and The Machine’s Breaking In Video), and since the danger of waffling about hipsters is behind the corner, let me begin.
 
The main feature that caught my attention is the coherence in the lo-fi production during the whole video, whose is just 3 minutes of footages pasted together, creating a touching contrast in decadence scenes like those of of Paz de la Huerta falling down while intoxicated, and more nostalgic ones as cartoons, memoires of the teen age with videoclips of skaters and clips from old movies.
 

The Memory of the past is all over the video, from the music, to the footages that supply a deadly mix of gloom and melancholia.
Talking about the choice of the footages, she humbly disclosed the sources to her public, so we do take the advantage and quote them here:

The clips of Miss Del Rey singing are newly made (she’s not that old, actually she’s 26) using a common webcam, and the choice of clothing and everything is justified by her willing to look “pretty but smart.”
 

Beyond this last info, Lana loves: analogic filming, “Tim van den Hoff and Andrew Livingston whose films inspired this video” as she says in the credits, and Sunset Blvd or The Big Sleep.
We can’t deny that she has a hell of a knowledge in cinema and taste.
