With Starships we officially declare open the Summer Heat week, that will keep you entertained from now to the 19th with lovely trashy-fun-fresh videos, without forget a wannaplaydaily touch that always informs you about techniques and director’s choices.
 
So, let’s talk about Anthony Mandler who seems that has been blessed by the new millennium, beginning to work non-stop since 2000, and collecting artists and bands for his videography.
He shot Starships footage in three days in Oahu Island, Hawaii, but we think the longest part of the job was the post-production, looking at those tons of color-correction and effects.
The trash has its way in within seconds: a cgi starship flies and make the singer appear like venus in the waves, covered with glitters and oil and greeted like a goddess from the natives.
Than it’s time for a splash of color, literally, some slow-motion pastel-fluo bucketful on young boys bodies (helloooo summer!).
A kaleidoscope-effect couldn’t be missed, and with Nicki’s classic colors it’s almost an acid trip, that strolling to the end becomes even more frantic with overlapping and reverse color image-frames on the top of a vulcano scenario.
 
We all know this isn’t the most artsy video-concept, but this is what summer is for: losing up and enjoy.
