The name “Carpark North” was created from an error, indeed when Løren Balsner and Lau Højen chosed the name of the band they misinterpreted the meaning of “carpark” as “graveyard”, but they discovered the error a few months later and decided not to change the name anymore. So “carpark” represents the rock side and “north” the electric one.
“North” stands for the Pole, the pulses of stars against the beat of the music.
These Danesh run to Ursa Major. And “Human” is a great effort to reach the northern light. This is the first single from their album “All Things To All People” wich was released in 2005, and it was “Video of the Year” at the Danish Music Awards in 2006.
This song’s video lets the bodies shine, it is the Ode to (e)motions. Actually the director Martin de Thurah captures feelings as well as da Vinci catched the motions of the souls in Renaissance. So we could say that this video focuses on everything “human”.
Martin de Thurah is one of the most promising young directors of the AcademyFilms of London. He has worked with Kanye West, Editors, Futureheads, Mew, Glasvegas etc. and he won a number of awards at the 2009 MVA’s including ‘Best Director’, and a D&AD Pencil on his video for Will Young.
His films are gently ruthless.
In this case the technical video editing includes the use of acceleration, slow motion (super slow motion in case of portraits with black background of individual child), reverse projection and digital animations for the scenes of children’s bodies suspensions. Most of the kids of the video are dancers and they were accepted only if “they dared to dance ugly”.
They’ve done it, and the video was shot in only two days.
