Today we move somewhere in Europe: Paus is a great band coming from Portugal. They’re made by two voices, keyboards, two drums and a bass. What it comes from those 4 guys is an hypnotic, psychedelic, powerful sound, in facts they’re label Enchufada says “this is a new sound and it’s the sound we want you to listen“.
The director of Deixa-me Ser music video, John Filipe, was very able to put all the energy of this music in a visual way.
As you can see just watching it for the first time, The whole concept turns around relationship between the microcosm and the macrocosm, with a lot of visual effects that are well mixed.

On the basilar level of the video there are beautiful shots of the band playing in an empty dark space: only a very powerful light create strong and cutting contrasts. A lot of this shots are close-up of the four guys singing the song and here we have a very interesting use of lights and visual effects: intermitting light, blue tones and a strong use of double exposures.
In some shots we also have a split screen of the same shot, cut on the shape of a V (timecode 0:56 or 2:11).

It is clear that Filipe knows how to use colors: in this video we assist to a continuous use of a cold dominant alternated to a warm one.
There is also a big work in the postproduction: effects that simulates 3D (when the red and cyan channels separate and if you have 3D glasses you can see the image turning in 3D) or cases in which computer screen have problems.
But what it came to my eye first, was the extraordinary effect that splits the motion picture in 3d pixels, something like those pixels of old tv screen could bring to life and move in the real space.

What else? Oh yes, in the second half of the video we have a huge use of double exposures, reflected shots in the same time, shots put side-by-side (seriality effect) with a very powerful use of primary colors, especially red, green and blue (the three colors of pixels).
The videoclip starts and ends with 3D images from the space, in particular some of them are eclipse between planets.

The whole video catches the eye with its psychedelic colors and editing, perfectly tuned with the strong sound of Paus‘ music.
