Some months ago the New Zealander (thanks Robbie n.d.r.) drum and bass duo The Upbeats signed with Vision Recordings and produced several tracks featuring the label’s owners Noisia, paving the way to become one of the top names in the international dnb scene.

Today I’ll talk about the video made for their new single that will be release on January 14th, Diffused. The song is very smooth, dominated by a deep, warm bassline topped with some bongos and a ghost-like vocal.

To translate this into images the director Tobias Edwards decided to realize an amazing black and white 3D animation inspired by Aztec decorations, Japanese tradition and science fiction movies (some shots totally reminds me of Prometheus). Even if these elements belong to completely different worlds the director glued them together in a perfect way, finding the perfect balance between futurism and traditionalism, soul and technology, magic and science.

From a technical point of view the video is cutting-edge, both modeling and rendering have personality and are really pleasant, even if in certain shots you can see some straight lines and harsh corners. The post-production elements are very nice too, especially the kaleidoscopic shots that are enhaced and made unique by the high contrast between black and white.
