Hi, folks!
I’m in a bad mood lately. Sun was shining out of my window today, and it remembered me that the world is beautiful.
It got even worse, because right after that I realized I couldn’t go outside.
Anyway, following this kind of mood, I present you a very cool videoclip.
It’s not a regular one. I didn’t choose it because of some crazy technique, but because of who directed it.
You might have heard about some guy called Tim Burton.
Well, after Bones in 2006 he decided to work again with The Killers at the end of 2012.
So, for the track Here With Me he directed the videoclip.
First of all I will quote an excerpt of what Burton himself said about this video:
«The first time I saw The Killers perform live was in Blackpool, UK shortly after completing work on our first collaboration, the music video for Bones,” the director wrote. ”When I heard the song Here With Me I remembered seeing a wax figure of Winona in Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks in Blackpool. The concept of the video is inspired by the 1935 film Mad Love, starring Peter Lorre, as well as the works of Mario Bava.»
— Crazy dog!
This video is a big one. And it also has Wynona Ryder starring in it.
It tells the strange story of a little guy falling in love with a famous woman. He’s so crazy about her that he decides to steal her wax statue at a museum. And he lives a love story with the statue, imagining she’s the real woman. And then everything goes crazy. Classic Tim Burton.
I will just talk little about technique: there is nothing incredible in it.
It’s just “regular” filming and montage. This means: Tim Burton is a very talented director. The taste for the image is very strong in him and his style lies not in some incredible filming genius. It resides somewhere else.
So, the video is beautifully shot, and well crafted as regards montage. But the point is his visual style.
If you ever saw one of his main movies (Edward Scissorhands or Big Fish for example) you will recognise that same atmosphere here. He’s a master at creating this amazing gloomy and disturbing mood.
I mean, just have a look at the last scene where the guy (Craig Roberts) lights the head of the statue and… his.
What I think is amazing about Tim Burton is that he can develop a unique sense of tension that lies between fear, amusement and confusion. Best thing you can do (if you haven’t yet): watch Big Fish right after you will have watched this video.
You might be saying: «Come on, I have no time for that».
And my answer is: everybody deserves some time to listen to a beautiful story.
That was all for today.
Have a nice day, guys!
