Tame Impala’s music is a byword for travel, cosmic journey, inner journey, or, more simply, acid trip. Why not put all this in a video and bring it to the highest point possible? This is what Robert Hales thought, inserting the camera into a weather balloon and taking it from the surface of Earth (in Mildura, Australia) to the middle of the stratosphere, 24 km from the ground. The video has been considerably accelerated to fit song’s length; the actual time of ascent took about a hour and the descent 15 minutes.
As in any well-respected production, there is a curious back story about this video. The eagle that appears in the last frames is not due to director’s will; the bird has accidentaly landed nearby the camera mistaking its parachute for a wounded animal.
Awesome story, great music, fantastic video: let’s get high toghether.
