Few weeks ago I already talked about the Sigur Rós project called Mystery film experiment.
The band decided giving to a dozen of film makers the same modest budget and asked them to translate into images sensations come into their head when they listen to songs from the album Valtari. So they deny the usual process of artistic approval and boost the creating freedom.

We never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. we don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. with the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. none of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be interesting.

Ramin Bahrani accepted the challenge and exceeded the director Ragnar Kjartansson who made a video for the same song. That’s an interesting clip but, perhaps, it’s less suitable for band’s mood. Bahrani also collaborated with Werner Herzog on his short film Plastic bag that seems to be a tribute to the American beauty plastic bag scene. I think he was inspired by this video sequence for this Sigur’s clip. There is the same poetry, the same attention to simple details, to slow movements. From the agony of the goldfish to goats, foliage, chickens, condos, helicopter, bridges, the camera has frozen everything. Time is dilated, it remains an eternal moment of harrowing emotion.
Relax your eyes, it’s not forbidden to cry.
