Ellis Bahl is a quite cruel filmaker.
I think he enjoys himself into this role.

I admit that the first time I saw the video, I hadn’t much empathy for Walk off the Earth. When I finished to watch the video again on mute mode  (it’s Wannaplay’ Shadow Cabinet fault…), they seemed to me a casual selected mix of I don’t know what, a sort of “Hey, would you sing this song with a nice girl and other funny boys?” “what nice girl?” “we’ll look for that nice girl tomorrow!’
A kind of ‘indie’ ‘rock’ band that plays a song that look like the last hit by another ‘indie’ ‘rock’ band.

Then I have started to like them. Well….maybe not ‘like’, but ‘feel sorry for them’ is more proper.
Indeed watching the ‘making of‘, you begin to have a certain respect for these guys.
Without the same purpose of Sukurov’s ‘Russian Ark’, Bhal shot a one-take-scene with the camera that retreated slowly while in front the band performed their song in an unusual way; the filmmaker, figuring out how he wanted the video, took the song and completely turned it upside down: he recut the song, played with its speeds, rearranged the verses and chorus, creating in this way a very different song, very hard to perform even in playback because the band must follow this alternative structure, speeding up their acts and playing like they were insane dancing men, but very full of energy.
Then Bahl worked and edited the take, cutting and playing with its speed in order to make the video matches with the original song.

Well…I prefer the Bahl’s version of the song more than original one.
