OneRepublic is living the Good Life, and this his the wonderful video by Ethan Lader‘s direction.

“Good Life” is OneRepublic’s fourth single off their second studio album, Waking Up.
The music video was released on February 14, 2011. It takes place on a dusty, secluded field in Calabasas, CA, on one overcast day and shows the band performing the song shot through a vintage lens. It shows many different symbols and is a bit different from their previous videos. The original video was filmed in a mountain valley located in West Hills, California. The song is about having the choice to live a good life no matter what hurdles or rough patches come your way. “It’s probably the most universal lyric we have in any song on the album,” Brent Kutzle, the band’s base guitar and cello player, told. “Every other song takes a minute to really get into or to fully understand.”

“Good Life” is a mixture of live action, 3,000 digital stills, and visual fx in post. A video in the video: the ones of the group that performs, reported as if it were a canvas, and that the “journey” that makes this canvas. A stop motion that allows the fabric to pass from hand to hand, from landscape to landscape. A transition from reality to paint using video effects and images manipulation.

Here we report an Interview of Kutzle, the band’s base guitar and cello player by andpop.com.
“The initial video was one that was edited with no FX,” Kutzle says. After re-releasing the video this past February, Kutzle describes it as “a big sigh of relief.” Kutzle goes on to say, “I’m glad we, obviously, rereleased the version with the FX edits. Those versions are night and day.”
Kutzle feels that Lader was the perfect guy for the video.
“Ethan nailed this video and got the vibe of the song perfectly,” Kutzle explained. “This is the best video I think we have. The format is interesting and fresh…we will work together in the future I’m sure.”
Having shot the video in Calabasas, Kutzle describes the shoot as the shortest they have had by far, totalling a mere four hours. Although the day was overcast, the weather ended up working perfectly to their advantage.
“There’s something about this song that will always strike something with me,” adds Kutzle. “I really like it and I think the video adds another dimension.”
“The general response has been exceeding our expectations so far,” says Kutzle, “and we hope that continues. We love that the song and video is connecting with people.”
“This song contains everything we’ve been progressing in as a band,” adds Kutzle. “We love the space in this song and the fusion of drums that make you want to move. I think the delivery in the verses is something we’ll end up tapping into on the third album as well.”

In December 2011, a second music video, filmed entirely at Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort was released. It features the band performing at Cinderella Castle as well as riding on several attractions. This is what the director, Ethan, write on his vimeo channel: “This year Disneyland Parks based their Commercial Campaign on the Music Video I created for OneRepublic’s “Good Life.” I was commissioned by Disney to Direct the National Commercials, which included 5 spots. It’s a great honor that continued with shooting a Disney Version of the original Music Video on location in Disney World. Then I worked alongside Disney and Dick Clark Enterprises to create 3 Pod Segments for Dick Clark’s “Rockin New Year’s Eve Show.” The video I created inspired all the content. Its been an awesome experience.” And here you can check out the video to watch the evolution of a Music Video that became a Visual Campaign.

Enjoy it and live the good life!!!
