Norah Jones is finally back on the road. This cute girl from Manhattan is one of the finest musicians out there, and her soothing jazzy voice puts some strange kind of spell over me every time I hear it. All right, I’ll cut it short: I just love her!

This is the alternative version of the official video for Happy Pills, first single that came out from the new …Little Broken Hearts.

And it’s a very nice one! Many times, wandering around on YouTube, lyrics videos can be found, and 99% of the times they’re just some crappy fan-made stuff. But Blue Note Records‘ staff really did a great job.

Making this kind of video looks quite simple, but making them work well is a very tough task. Animated typography is not something to be taken too lightly. There are many rules (like legibility, color balance and stuff like that), and they’re all equally important to obtain a top-level result. Having full legibility while creating a visual effect is a very difficult balance to reach!

This video features a non-stop dancing Helvetica Black Condensed Italic font on a continuously changing background. The animation goes (obviously) with the rhythm of the song, and is very easy to follow. Not boring, too (and trust me, that’s the most important thing). The colors are taken from the cover of the album, and work very smoothly for a video of this kind.

So, the result is very nice, and gives an extra to an already very enjoyable song.

I’ll give you also a fun fact about the album cover, that appears at the beginning of the video. Danger Mouse, producer of her album, had in his room this poster from 1965′s movie Mudhoney, and it reminded him of Norah, so he wanted the cover of …Little Broken Hearts to be a new version of it!

Well done, Norah. And welcome back!
