Do you like kaleidoscopes? We sure do, and that’s why we chose this Mastodon video.
There is a whole animation and graphic effect made by Aaron Hymes who actually took inspiration from the album artwork (made by AJ Fosik), a wood carver who is also responsible for the backdrop the band uses live. The video uses a kaleidoscope effect to generate symmetric patterns and images out of a few pictures. It was released about 500 hours before The Hunter was released (Sep 27th, 2011). That might be the reason why the video feels like a teaser for the album and for its visual content documented in the cover art of The Hunter, a sculpture made by AJ Fosik, which recurs as a repetitive image in the videoclip.
