“M83 want you to make the official music video for the song Steve McQueen, from their critically acclaimed album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. M83 are giving you complete creative freedom, and leaving the brief wide open for you to interpret the song. Something to keep in mind from Anthony though: “Its not about the actor”!

This is exactly the source of the video we present today, a competition launched by the group M83; the winner video would become the official music video for Steve McQueen as well as win 3000 euro. Outstanding videos will also be nominated for the 2012 Genero Awards and in the running for $25,000 in prizes. The winner and finalists will be chosen by M83 and Genero. And the winners were, as said, Balthazar Auxietre and Sylvain Derosne.
What they have presented is a video characterized with vintage. A delicious return to the early 80′s. The colors, tending to bluish tones, the attention at the machines, the frame from which stands out science and technology, the simple but well played effect: everything is coherent.
 

Balthazar Auxietre and Sylvain Derosne said they wanted to depict “the kind of paradoxical energy you have when you grow up”. It focuses on a dream-like version of childhood ruled by foggy nights and telekinesis; it features a boy in a yellow suit, some scientific experiments, and a group of roaming animal figurines. It perfectly captures that sense of childlike exploration and wonder.
 

The videoclip is a motion picture and also features some stop-motion animation. Short cut technique is also used as well as the overlapping of images in transparency. They used a lot of details’ frames, especially to emphasize the curious tale of scientific experiments.

 
M83 knows how to capture an indescribable feeling and put it in a song. Balthazar Auxietre and Sylvain Derosne can do it with video! Beauty, intensity, dream, hope, nostalgia and wonder. Awesome video!!
