Hey there, guys!

Ready for tomorrow? I definitely am!

Party will be hard, so what’s better than a cool video in front of a hot cup of tea to accumulate energy for the next night?

I have something that’s perfect for this purpose!

I love old movies. They convey a strong feeling of pride. And old actors and actresses are so cool and  classy.

If you follow me with this feeling, go on and enjoy this videoclip.

It’s the video for Low’s track Try To Sleep. Released on April 2011.

First things first: it totally draws inspiration from those old movies I was talking about. Both in the concept and the technique. Travis Schneider (a very cool guy) directed a nostalgic videoclip that looks like some Hitchcock’s movie driving scene. With more of a romance touch.

This video, moreover, sees John Stamos starring in it (remember ER?) along some beautiful model.

Let’s talk technique now.

It resembles old movies style. In the past, when the filming gear was less advanced, car scenes were shot in a studio, with the actors on a still car and white screens around it with projectors reproducing street footage on it.

Ok, the goal of the director was to reach this vintage effect.

In order to achieve the result, at the beginning of the video, he put in front of the car a big screen in which some footage was projected. He declared clearly what he wanted to do.

Everything else is shot with green screen technique. Great attention was put into framings.

Then footages of the background and of the actors were merged and corrected in a software like After Effects. Results were then mounted together for the final result in something like Premiere or Final Cut.

What else to say? It’s a very beautiful video. Maybe a bit boring (the song doesn’t help at all, in this sense), but very well made. And this Amarcord feeling is very touching!

Well done Mr. Schneider!

See you, guys! And… HAPPY NEW YEAR!
