Here is official second single from Kings of Leon‘s latest album “Come Around Sundown”.
Despite the song title being “pyro” the video doesn’t show a single flame, not even a sparkle can be seen in this bar that, for some unthinkable reason made me thought at the video for Fun ft. Janelle Monáe’s We Are Young; maybe it’s the slow-motion, maybe it’s the animated fight that exist in both, but with totally different mood.
We are young is, as the song title says, much more cheerful than pyro, which is darker and apparently more symbolic and holy.
The director of Pyro is Paul Greenhouse, and we have to congratulate with Max Goldman for the great photography of this video, that was nominated for “best video” and “best cinematography” at Plus Camerimage in 2011, won respectively by Manchester Orchestra – Simple Math and DU – So hot.

It all begins with a long take following a guy into the bar and exploring it, discovering the place and its population, a glance on humanity and on the band.
Than a punch, the guy is unexpectedly knocked at the floor by a man because the guy tried to rescue a girl from him, and so under the eyes of a small crowd of people, the beater get excited, the other still indifferent.
The wandering of the point of view seems to be even slower with the progression of the song, and then, the unexpected fact n.2: the protagonist begin to float in the air, and soon enough also the other consumers of the bar follow this strangeness and their feet detached from the floor lifting them slowly into an unknown space.

We aren’t going to tell you that we had understand the meaning, we quote an article from MTv’s website, affirming that “the clip ends with everyone slowly floating off into the great beyond, perhaps freed from their personal prisons by this single act of heroism. Or maybe they’re all just really wasted.”
What’s your theory?
