This song by Grandaddyfeatures a truly amazing video that brings us back to another age. There aren’t complex special effects or twisted ideas behind it. It’s just an hommàge to something we don’t see anymore. The whole song is accompanied by a filmed black screen on which green letters and glyphs dance following the music. This videoclip has two strenghts: first one, it features a vintage display typography that sure is fascinating and becomes “fresh” again (something very popular right now) and very distinctive. Second, it’s an amazing work! Stewart Smith programmed this animation on an old Apple II computer in BASIC Language and made it follow the rhythm of the song, playing around with words and letters. This is what he said: «I programmed this entirely in Applesoft BASIC on a vintage 1979 Apple II+ with 48k of RAM. A computer so old it has no hard drive, mouse up/down arrow keys, and only types in capitals. First open-source music video, code available on my website».
Something amazing, for sure! Congrats Stewart!
