Hi guys, this time we want to show you this brand new video for Foals‘ single My Number, from their upcoming album Holy Fire. The English band has an original video tradition, which I found very interesting because of the stylistic heterogeneity. From the powerful, colorful, muscled Miami, to the indie poetic Red Socks Pugie, to the street soul of the recent Inhaler; we can say that each video has a different taste, which is never meant to be repeated.
My number opens a window on the digital visual style. The hyper productive and super talented duo Us directed it, always pushing their creative vim to innovation.
Do you remember crosswords? When I was a child I used to complete the dot-to-dot drawings, and I was so proud to be such an artist: well, Us studio built a dot-to-dot world, and enjoyed the same! As you will see, it mustn’t have been that easy. As they say in this interview: “It was a hugely ambitious task, but we love to push ourselves, if we are not intimidated by an idea or project it normally means it’s not worth doing.”.
This challenge took three long months from the beginning to the end. First step: motion capture shootings with the band. Ok, great, but how to apply the dot-to-dot concept to a moving image? “We then had to re-create the band members and their instruments in 3D to apply the MoCap data to it, we then converted this into dot-to-dot”. The most time-consuming phase was the one with the band, while creating the city and the universe was relatively easy, since they did worked on them at home. I suggest you to read the interview, where you can see some photos of the post production phase.
Trust me, if you need inspiration have a look to their works: they’re always pushing new boundaries.
