I’m happy to be back here bringing you some fresh stuff today.

Which is always a pleasure.

You know, it’s been quite a while since we started working (very hard) on Wanna Play Daily, and although we already found so many videos, there’s always cool fresh stuff that needs to be brought here! Amazing!

Let’s start.

This is the video for Putty Boy Strut, a track from Flying Lotus’ new album Until The Quiet Comes. The album was released on the 26th of September, and this single came out the week right before.

I appreciate Flying Lotus. I don’t love electronic music, but he’s some kind of crazy genius, and I can sense a lot of good vibes coming from his work.

The video has been directed by Cyriak Harris (if you wanna understand who he is, take a look here). He teamed up with Sarah Brown for this video and he describes it this way: «She made the robots and I made them go horrible». Pretty simple and clear.

This video, in my opinion, is super cool. Probably because of the robots. I love robots. Whatever you do, if you add robots to it, it gets way cooler.

This robot-apocalypse scenario is not new for Flying Lotus (do you remember Kill Your Co-Workers I wrote some time ago?), and I appreciate it! All this little robo-maggots are very funny to watch as they become more and more on the screen, until the beautiful finale of the video kicks in.

As regards technique, it’s simple to say, yet hard to do. The video is entirely made with the Adobe Suite. Through Photoshop, Sarah Brown created the single maggots. Then mr Harris took them and animated them with After Effects and (most probably) added the sound with Premiere. The animation is pretty amazing. Very rhythmic, very mechanical. But also nicely smooth. The visual style is cartoonish and is very beautiful. Also the colors work very well together, creating this shiny strange world of pumped up tints. He added also a vignetting effect which adds good drama to it.
