Colapesce is one of my favourite artists from the indie musical landscape in Italy, used this song for the lunch of the deluxe edition of his album “Un meraviglioso declino”, after being stopped on the last lap of selections for the Sanremo Festival.

The songwriter and singer from Sicily has been capable of putting in this song, like he has done in the entire album, the feelings of a disillusioned generation that is continuously struggling for dreams, trying to find a new vision for the future.

In this video there are a lot of objects that can call the mind back to a past made of dreams that are no longer possible, flying around in a fake spaceship, the one we are waiting for or perhaps we are hoping can arrive here.

A fake spaceship flying in an universe, where the most powerful energy comes from love that continues to give us life.

A wonderful video, directed by Giacomo Triglia, a very imaginative and talented director.

Have a good time watchin it, and follow your dreams!

Here we are, today we move in Los Angeles with the Swedish singer Ola Svensson. Mr Ola has been premiered this song as summer 2012 video single.

As we could define it? Weird, absolutely weird! But incredibly stylish!
It mix different style of filming. At first it simulate a kind of surveillance camera. In thoese thriller scenes, Ola is tormented with a heart cut out with scissor. The scenes repeats and the colour is the noisy gray/black/with of the “survellance camera”.

Suddenly it tourn into something opposte. Using a green screen, Ola could fly over the roads, wearing patchwork dresses.
Everything is colorfull, is not a real world but it seems something about Ola distort perception, as the speaking dog!

The end of the video is also something really unusual, but at least, is Ola’s videoclip!

Goodmorning crocodiles! Feel primitive today, we’re talking about a video hot as magma.

Northern Bells‘ve just came out with their Keep it in the dark, and here we have the single Animal kingdom. Eric Power is the talented guy who directed the video.

Do you remember that great film, Waking Life by Richard Linkletter? Eric was 17, and that was the occasion where he got his start in animation. From that time on, he never stopped working. After a ton of music videos (about 32!), Eric realized one more amazing work. This guy is not simple a paper artist, but The paper artist. He always works with paper, creating multi layered landscapes, paying attention to each leaf, cloud, bird. It must take a long time to prepare a single video: each character moves into these paper worlds with stop motion technique.
In Animal kingdom he depicts a primitive hostile land, where it’s difficult to survive. I want to introduce you to the video with Eric‘s words:

“A common fate is shared among three strange creatures. Does the story have an end, or are they caught in a dream?”.

And, do it for yourself, have a look to his version of Super Mario: you’ll laugh all the time!

Welcome to Bollywood!!! The Australian rap-pop singer Iggy Azalea tapped into East Indian culture for her brand new music video Bounce.
Teamed with director BRTHR – aka Alex Lee and Kyle Wightman – she went to Mumbai, in India, to add some exoticism an indian glamour in her sexy hip-hop. Super-colourful, brilliantly edited and culturally enlightening have the main part of the video! They want to make it dynamics and powerfull, so they use short cut, flashing frame (like yellow or pink), kaleidoscope and mirror effects, zoom in and out, slowmotion combinated with spped up, overlapping layer.

One of the most important part of the video is, of course, the setting!

Asking to Iggy’s stylist, Alejandra Hernandez, about the decision to film this videoclip in India, she said “The directors submitted the Bollywood-themed treatment, and when Iggy saw it she was like – YUP, this one’s it! And we’re not shooting in LA and faking Bollywood. Let’s get on a plane, and shoot it in India. And I want to ride an elephant.- ”

“Shooting ‘Bounce’ in India was surreal,” Iggy told Rap-Up TV. “It’s just so crazy to dream something so big and actually see it happen.”

So you could see Iggy dane in street during the indian festival of Pagwa and, as she wanted, riding an elephant! “It took us a month to find it and we got it, and it was such a shit fight,” says the 22-year-old, who had to get the Indian mafia to shut down the street. “We just took this elephant and thugged it down the street, and it was insane.”

Dresses have, as setting, one important role!

“I did so much research and really became obsessed” said Alejandra “I really like the Bollywood disco era, and was very inspired by Parveen Babi in her films. She was such an Indian bombshell. The costumes in the ’60s and ’70s were so next level. For the video, we wanted to be traditional and respectful to the culture, so the gold body suit was the closest I could get to my ’70s Bollywood dream. The saris came from both the states and India. Iggy loves color and prints, so definitely wanted saris that were bold. Wrapping and draping saris was a lot more complicated than I expected, but luckily I had a local assistant that knew what she was doing. I was a disaster. I got all jewelry in India. I knew that I would find the coolest jewelry there. I didn’t even waste my time looking in the states.”

Iggy adds “I think record labels need to reinvest in doing stuff like that, it helps create the fantasy and the bigness of an artist. This video definitely perpetuates escapism.”

They were born “between Mars and Africa”, Nicholas Mottola Jacobsen, Luca Buscema (Il cielo di bagdad) and Lorenzo Sglavo (Iris’tea), are “officially lost” but to us they seem on the right track to success.

WPD: How have you had the idea for this video? What are the inspirational themes?
Dinosauri:This is our first single, Eppure Noi is the return journey on an high speed train, where everything becomes a moment, almost nothing, and yet we found ourselves to be everything.

WPD: We’ve noticed that in the video the sound plays a lot with the visuals. How did you create this relationship and how did you work to make it effective?
Dinosauri: The video was born at the same time as the song, like a tennis match between music and visuals.

WPD: How has the Dinosauri project been generated?
Dinosauri: I Dinosauri xxxx, how Lucio Dalla was suggesting some years ago. I Dinosauri take shape and music in these days, metabolizing our time in new sounds. We’re not a storic band, we go often to the same bar and we hide in tumblr.

WPD: Could you explain us your name?
Dinosauri: We can’t fossilize on things, then, let’s call ourselves “Dinosaurs”.

WPD: How much do your videos represent yourselves and how has your music/aesthetic style evolved?
Dinosauri: We try to communicate only what we are, with images and chords. Sometimes we fantasized a little, during recording sessions, and thought on Anna Oxa (ndr. italian singer) singing Eppure Noi

WPD: Would you let someone else direct your videos? who?
Dinosauri: just a name: Paolo Sorrentino

WPD: Are you planning something new for the following months?
Dinosauri: We’ve the record ready, a single on the way, the first concerts. We’re trying not to fossilize on things.

Here’s French digital artist collective Pleix delivering a new project that’s a wonderful music video, for French music duo Discodeine.

“The entire video is made of CGI. Motion capture was used for all animation and rendered as colored solids. This technique is used in 3D post production to easily separate objects from one another (one color per object). We liked the effect and used it for the overall appearance. Post processing was used to add texture to the film.”
Pleix said.

It looks quite simple in Pleix words, but I’m sure you’ll be puzzled by the effects you can obtain with this technique.

Sometimes something good, fresh and amazing comes even from Italy!
Hugo & The Prismatics are a band based in Turin (Italy) and unfortunately there is no (not yet!) a page talking about them on Wiki (we know you always give a try on that to find information, we did the same!).
This band works and play with music from long years, combining jazz and the newest technologies and is now working for Good Vibes Records label.

I invite you to take a look on their fb page, where they explain by themselves which is their own story and vision of music, but here a little anticipation: they’re latest album is “the meeting point between his jazz roots and the groovy years of electronic dance music. Jazz improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating fresh melodies over the continuously repeating cycle of chord changes of a tune“.

The videoclip that we present you today really found the point of contact with the song that presents.
The song Le Mystère has a self-explained title and the videoclip, of course, leaves the viewer with a question mark in his/her head: what is this? what does it mean? why?
I personally truly believe that when a video is able to leave a question, it means that has a power. Power to communicate something.
I don’t want to write here my own impression about it, so I’ll copy here what the director Raoul Paulet says: “Through a journey of self-discovery a woman explores the meaning of life. Choices, fears, intentions, mistakes. Her feelings are brought to life and populate her imagination. To distinguish what is real from what is not, she has to observe and listen carefully. This is the only way to not get lost. Objects that move and change shape. A magical table that gives her shelter. Dark shadows that reflect thoughts and movements. In this journey she learns how to communicate and play with these elements, so that she can finally feel confident enough to open her eyes wide and make her own destiny“.
The whole videoclip was shot in motion picture in a studio (black background), but a huge amount of postproduction helps to make it more unusual and interesting. Flying objects, 2D animation and a nice game between colors, lights and shapes were makes this videoclip something really similar to a video-art creation.
If you are interested in the making of you can take a look to the backstage photos.

The first word that comes up to describe this video is: WOW.
I’ve been amazed by the possibilities of 3D animation to merge with live action, guided by an intelligent and sensitive creative mind.

Dvein is a a filmmaking and animation collective out of Barcelona, a collaborative project by the directors Fernando Domínguez, Teo Guillem and Carlos Pardo providing direction and art direction for live action and animation.
The Vein is created out of a rib of Dvein, that announces to the Creators Projects that “For the moment, The Vein is not just an invented band. We plan to release a vinyl single for ‘Magma,’ and they have their own website—thevein.xxx.”

The visual for this music video are outstanding, landscapes where faces take place and ground and body are made by the same surface matter.
“We wanted it to take us to somewhere else far, far away—some surreal land where the children are old people and the landscape is alive, where the living organism is the landscape itself,” said the filmmakers.
“There was something in it that was giving life to this chorus of old people with children’s voices, the painting, the magma, that was moving all around this landscape.”
“We had a couple of references in mind when we did it, like some of the desert sequences in Zabriskie Point,” said Dvein. “We wanted to use black and white as a starting point because we wanted a transition from a monochrome landscape to a colorful world full of paint.”

As DJ Pangburn says in the cited article, the effect is that of a psychedelic primordial soup of replication.

here’s the making of this video: it’s definitely worth a look:

Do you remember the old (stone) age of video games?
I was to young to have my time spent with the legendary Commodore Amiga, but it’s always a good thing to have someone who remember pieces of history.

For an old flavor music we have an flavor video, although they are flavor of different decades.
The based in London creative collective Shynola (we have seen them with excellent video Coldplay or for Queens of the Stone Age) is famous for a variety of collaboration both in music video and film (they made the title sequence for the small gem movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ), but I say that this is not my favorite video.
The lo-fi resolution pixel art was produced using Deluxe Paint, and old bitmat graphics editor for Amiga developed from 1985 to 1994, and animated to create a story of dancers (the Junior Senior duo themselves) and a daredevil squirrel who want only create chaos and havoc for its pleasure and fun.

Well, we now know that the squirrels will destroy the world.

Buongiorno guys! Today we have a really original videoclip!

Directed by Ohji, about whom I was just able to find his Vimeo profile, this work is for the trio Keys N Krates, based in Toronto, which is making (I would say) a sort of hip hop. The three musicians released this track in their last EP Solow, for the label Dim Mak Records.

Ohji worked here on a strange concept: he took book covers, such as romance novels, and he animated them: they all are pairs of lovers moving a little bit. Probably those images have beed cut and divided on multiple layers, and later animated as digital puppets. I think that’s really interesting and it gives the video this vintage atmosphere that is impossible to not appreciate, although it could appear a little repetitive, ’cause nothing is really happening and the animation sequences are always pretty similar.

It’s still a great work and we’re looking forward for Ohji to update his profile and make we know more about him and about his videos, hoping then now ones are coming soon!
