“Lose this child
He’s in your arms
Lose this child”

Try to remember what you feel when you are standing alone on the beach, looking at the vastness of the sea and you think “I’d want to go to the sea’s end but I’m only a boy and I’ll lose against the waves” so you sit down, you are a man, so strong but so fearful.
The small turtle knows that it has only a little hope, but its desire is stronger than its fears.

Eatliz’s ‘Lose That Child’ is one of the most touching video I have ever seen. Maybe it isn’t aesthetically perfect, but it has a rare meaningful power: pure and bewitched, but also so melancholic and dreadful.

The rock band from Tel-Aviv, six people, fronted by the beautiful Lee Triffon’s voice, finds again the duo Yuval & Merav Nathan (nominated in the 52nd Grammy Awards for ‘Her Morning Elegance’) after “Attractive” from 2007 to create a story of birth, life and death.

”The sea is the source of life in this planet. It is where life started and it will stay here after we all disappear.”
Shot in Israel, on the beach near the village Jaser al zarka and Caesarea, the video it’s a amazing effort of stop-motion technique realized whit sand. It took 35 nights (plus some days in studio for close-up and 3D sequences) and the major difficulties were working with sand because how it behave at different levels of humidity and for its monochromatic color and its noisy texture; for this visual matter Yuval & Merav Nathan decided to work with hard lights to define the silhouette of the elements.
The sand’s variety of condition has forced the duo to work in studio for the “singing Medusa” (that is for me the weakest part of the work); this studio shot along the 3D ones (the star turtles dancing in the sky, of course) are the only shots composited with the sea background.

There is also a beautiful contrast in the mix of stop-motion and the real word: while in the sand world we have this sense of drama and struggle for survival, the smearing wave’s foam (caused by the long exposure to shot in night), the cloud and all the city background seem to live another life, a dreamy ones, far away from what happens in the seaside.

Like the unawareness of the child who makes little turtle dreams come true.
