Sssh, please guys, relax, go in a silent place where you can comfortably sit. Now you can have a rest and push the button “pause” of your chaotic routine, and enjoy this delicate video.
We move lightly is the right song to take a breath. And if you need a longer pause, you should listen to the full album Lumiere (2011), by Dustin O’ Halloran. He’s a self taught pianist of the post-classic scene and through his sound he gently whisper at your ears delicate harmonies.
Christina Vantzou is the interesting personality who directed the video. This girl is a polyhedral artist who experimented many different artistic languages in her career: drawings, prints, animations, videos and video installations. And, as we read in her bio “In recent years sound has become a key aspect of her artistic identity”; you can have a look to this performance she made, a composition for six cellos. As she became a member of many bands (such as The Dead Texan), she worked on tons of videoclips.
In We move lightly Christina shows many cheerleaders while training, trying to close difficult jumps again and again. This choice reminds me of the documentary movie Visions of Eight (1973), where we see Olympic athletes during the training (you can have a quick look here). But this time the video doesn’t communicate us the action immediacy: through slow motion everything is suspended, and we notice every little movement we couldn’t see with usual 25 frames. As a result of this escamotage, a rapid and physical action becomes just a girl who lightly moves in the air, something like a vision, ethereal.
But now I’m afraid your rest is over… satisfied?
