Dj Stereolove, one of the most popular djs in the land of kangaroos, makes no exception. After 21 years into dance industry, James Fraser started working as Stereolove in 2012, and this is the third single he releases from his upcoming 2013 album Enjoy This Trip.
He wanted Jayden Dowler from Oh Yeah Wow team to make I Wish That video, and that’s what he gave birth to. This team is well experienced in videoclips: Gotye‘s Easy Way Out and Wax Taylor’s Time to Go bring their mark.
This time they created a cartoon, using 2D Animation. It took over 6 months to complete it, but the result is worth it. The graphic choices remind me of Pearl Jam‘s video Do The Evolution (1998): colours, fast sequences, and a strong 90s style.
I Wish That shows us mechanical soldiers marching at the music beat, while an evil dictator’s giving a speech. Movements are geometrical, rigid, as the society where they live in. But no worries: suddenly public dissense explodes and soldiers become human again, starting a crazy breakdance. Movements are fluid, shapes rounded, such as in a Disney’s cartoon. Thanks to the power of music, dictatorship is subverted. Yey!
