Diplo: you love him or you hate him, there are no half measures here. In case you didn’t get it yet, I am totally part of the first group.

His music is pure ignorance, he plays with sounds to create kick-ass dancefloor anthems you can’t resist to, with simple and almost stupid melodies, and choruses that will stick to your brain passing through your ears, and that will hardly go away.

That’s why you may think he’s an idiot, I think he is a genius. I made almost the same speech some months ago while reviewing Hummus’ clip and it’s not a coincidence that Crookers was signed to his label, Mad Decent, before they split.

The overall philosophy behind the videos made for his song is not different at all,  the result are colorful,  super-trashy clips, filled with characters that seem taken from a Brazilian favela and ass-shaking dancers. Butter’s Theme’s video is a perfect example of that.

As you can see, to realize this video the director recorded some 4-5 seconds long clips, blocking out the background, then he cloned and rearranged them to create some kind of digital choreography, which, in my opinion, reaches his apex during the last chorus.

In that sequence Dangoor created a serie of concentric caleidoscopic rows of “dancers” with the same clips he already used in previous scenes, cloning a single clip over and over to form a circle. It’s a crazy idea, don’t you think?
