And here it is, here is David Choi‘s music video for “Missing Piece” of his third album Forever and Ever.
The director is Ross Ching, an American filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Here is his site where you can see his works, he always makes himself the most of his sets and a creative use of visual effects.

The video starts with Ellen Wong as the leading lady opposite to David Choi. She assembles a puzzle with none other than David.
Then a girl appairs and the two fall in love. The lovestory on the jigsaw puzzle gets complicated when a gust of wind sends the pieces scattering, the “puzzle” Ellen Wong and David Choi pieces separated from each other. In “real life” Ellen Choi comes back to put the puzzle together again, but that’s not enough. One “Missing Piece” seems never to be found, and that piece is the one that divides the lovers. Unable to locate the piece, Ellen Wong begins to draw in the missing piece and so the two are able to connect in the drawing world.

Technically, it is a video in a video. Both subjected to post-production, especially in the case of video-puzzle, in which is used the texturing typical of the puzzle. Here you could see a video’s making of, where you could notice the “green pieces” of puzzle, used to integrate the second video. Finally it’s made explicit the overlapping of different videos and the final illustrated animation.

This is what Ross Ching writes in his site about this music video: “For every music video I make, I always keep creativity and originality as the top priority. So when David and his manager, Jon, approached me I let them know that the concept is key. Many people think that making something for the internet is similar to making something for TV or cinema. But in actuality, it is very different. Of course, the tools you use are the same, but the concepts and timing are a world away from almost any other medium. When I first listened to the song, I had writer’s block just like everyone else. It took some more thinking and a meeting with David to really iron out what should happen in the video. Collaboration is very important in these types of situations. Inspiration can come from anywhere, even from friends that don’t know anything about film.”

Enjoy the video and write your own missing piece!!
